SHAFTER- Call it grit, determination or a need to win, but the North High Stars (2-1) are beginning a short winning streak they want to continue after a 27-13 win at Shafter, Sept. 6.

West High looked to get into the win column after a disappointing offensive performance at Mission Oak last week.

SHAFTER- Volleyball season just started last week, but Shafter coach Sabrina Macias already has a nickname for her 2019 squad. She calls them, “The Comeback Kids.”
 
The Generals certainly embodied that moniker against Kern Valley on Tuesday night.

Friday night’s season opener between the Independence Falcons and South High Rebels was deemed a “Dog Fight” by some in attendance. Last season, these teams went down to the wire in Week 1 which resulted in a 49-53 win for IHS at home. This year told a similar story but with an entirely different plot.

Centennial's defense completely stifled North's offensive attack and Richey went on to turn in a solid effort in the Golden Hawks 42-6 season opening win over the visiting Stars.

  Muhammad excelled on both sides of the ball for the Highland High Scots (1-0) against the Arvin High Bears (0-1) in a nonconference match up, which the Scots won 21-6, to open the season.
