The situation looked bleak for the North High volleyball team at the start of the fourth set of its Southeast Yosemite League match against Highland on Thursday night.

East Bakersfield rallied off 45 unanswered points against the visiting Mira Monte Lions to win 45-3 in each team’s first game of Southeast Yosemite League play.

“We were looking for a way to get back on track after the bye week and get rolling into league,” EBHS Head Coach Kasey Tittlemier said.

Highland coach Michael Gutierrez just wanted to see improvement out of his team when it took the field against North on Friday night. He got his wish and then some.

The Scots, led by the spectacular play of quarterback AJ Cleveland and wide receiver Shabazz Muhammad, turned in an impeccable all-around performance against the Stars.

Stockdale High School spoil Bakersfield High School’s homecoming night with a 33-20 win to open up the Southwest Yosemite League.

  This is Stockdale’s first win against BHS since Sept. 19, 2008 where they won 34-29 at home.

The last time the West High School volleyball team finished a season with a winning record the eight seniors on the Vikings current roster were all in third grade.

They were in fifth grade the last time West made the playoffs.

The Mira Monte High School volleyball team didn’t play up to its own lofty standards against East High on Tuesday night.
 
Even so, the Lions were able to put together a good enough performance to continue their streak of dominance over Southeast Yosemite League opponents.

Stockdale came into their contest Friday night at home against Sunnyside with the hopes of stretching their winning streak to three straight games.

The Mustangs’ strong first-half performance pushed them to a 29-20 victory behind impressive performances by Junior Quarterback Jack Kaiser (3 TDs) and Senior WR Jeremiah Gradowitz (2 TDs).

The Stars keep shining as North High extends its four-game win streak with a 33-20 win against West High on Friday night.

  “We have had a younger team in these last two years,” said North High head coach Norm Brown. “We’re just really excited about being 4-1.”

There isn’t any doubt that the Liberty High School football team can win games relying on its stellar defense. They’ve done it several times already this season.
