Get To Know Your ASB President- Cynthia Andalon

Cynthia Andalon
Name: Cynthia Andalon

School: Arvin High School

What are your goals for your presidency this year?

As Executive President, I must fulfill my role as a leader and a creative thinker. One of my main goals is to make this year as fun as it can be. As a senior, I’m able to understand what my class is going through, since our senior year is not a traditional one. I hope to pass on my optimism to our class and create the best virtual experience that we can have as seniors.

How do you feel about your leadership team?

I cannot put into words how amazing my leadership team is; they're all extremely creative and helpful. Although we are not able to see each other in person, we meet every morning via Zoom and have successful meetings where ideas, collaboration and creativity happens. Everyone is respectful and down to earth. We constantly are reaching out to our campus students to find out what they'd like to see more, since at the end, we are representing them in ASB.

What kind of music do you like listening to?

I enjoy listening to R&B, Rap, and Corridos.

Who are your inspirations?

Me. I genuinely push myself to be better every day. I have examples of what I never want to become in life and truthfully, that’s what motivates me to do better in life. I’m surrounded by an environment that’s extremely toxic, so the urge to get out of it is my daily inspiration.

What is your biggest fear?

One of my biggest fears is running out of time to repay my mom for everything she has done for my siblings and me. I’m scared of failing in life and not accomplishing my goals. I have expectations for a life that I want to live in the future and not achieving that is frightening. With the type of life, I've lived, I hope never to lose my positivity and the strength I know I have.

What motivates you to work hard?

I like to always think of the future and visualize my outcome, because I know that my hard work will pay off. It's inspiring to see that success comes from hard work and dedication. Seeing that inspiration---someone that makes it regardless of their environment---gives me reassurance and motivation to keep moving forward.

How would your friends describe you?

Really nice, chill, sweet, caring, positive, go getter, and smart.

What makes you laugh the most?

When I get on Twitter, I laugh at everything.

What is one thing you are really bad at?

I’m bad at saying no or demanding better for myself. Especially in restaurants, for example, if my order is wrong, I’ll just deal with it and not send it back.

What is one thing you are really good at?

Making new friends, approaching, and socializing with anyone and having the courage to speak in large crowds.

What shows are you binge-watching?

I’m currently watching “El Senor de Los Cielos” and “Lucifer" on Netflix.

What is your favorite season?

I personally love when spring is about to end, and summer is starting to begin because the temperatures is nice and it's not too hot or cold. It's perfect because you can wear anything.

Who are some of your favorite teachers?

It's a long list but I must give a shout-out to Ms. Liera, Mr. Orozco, Ms. Ruiz, Ms. Chavez, Ms. Stevens, Mr. Weber, Mr. Garcia, Ms. Ruben-Garcia, and Mr. Cole. These teachers have been amazing mentors, positive adults I feel free to turn to, a friend on campus, and just individuals that have allowed me to grow as a student and young adult. I'm extremely grateful for them.

What has been your favorite subject in school?

Video Production has been my favorite subject in school because it helps me step out my shell and be creative.
